Chair's Challenge Shield

This shield was donated by John Kennedy (Club Chair 2003-2004) and is shot for on the first weekend of December each year. The round shot is unique to the club and this competition, from January 2007 it took the name Kennedy. The archer with the highest aggregate score wins the shield.

Full Rules

  1. The competition is open to all current members of the club. Only registered student members may win the shield, other members (alumni and staff) are eligible to win medals but not the shield.
  2. Ex-members and other guests may shoot if there is space on the day and are eligible to win medals, but not the shield. Non members will be required to pay a £3 entry fee
  3. There will be up to 7 categories in which prizes will be awarded:
    • Ladies Recurve
    • Gents Recurve
    • Compound
    • Barebow Recurve
    • Longbow
    • Novice Ladies Recurve
    • Novice Gents Recurve
  4. Medals will be awarded on the following criteria:
    • 1st only if 1 or 2 archers compete in a category
    • 1st & 2nd if 3 or 4 archers compete in a category
    • 1st, 2nd & 3rd if 5 or more archers compete in a category
  5. A novice is an archer who has not shot (except "have a goes" /summer camps etc) before the September in which the academic year commences.
  6. The round to be shot shall be a 'Kennedy' as follows:
    • 2½ Dozen arrows at a black and white 16” face at 20y scoring 5,4,3,2,1
    • 2½ Dozen arrows at a 40cm face at 20y using 10 zone scoring
  7. The scores to be added together to find the winner. In the event of a tie, total golds (5s from the 16" face and 10s from the 40cm face) to be added together, followed by Golds + 9s. Compounds to score 10 for the inner 10 zone only on the 40cm face.
  8. One end of sighters to be allowed at the begining of the round only.
  9. A shield, to be kept by the club, will be awarded to the archer with the highest overall score for the round.
  10. All archers shall shoot on single spot faces
