Loughborough Students' Archery Club - BUCS

British Universities and Colleges Sports

BUCS stands for British Universities and Colleges Sports and was formed in 2008 by the amalgamation BUSA (British Universities Sports Association) and UCS (University College Sports). They are the co-ordinating body that organise all official inter-university and college sport.

There are two BUCS archery competitions each year:

  • An indoor Portsmouth round - hosted in 2009 at Loughborough University.
  • An outdoor FITA Gents round for gents or FITA Ladies round for ladies - hosted in 2009 by Warwick University at Lilleshall National Sports Centre.

For more information see the BUCS Archery web pages.

LSAC has a history with the BUCS Archery competitions hosting the Indoors in 1997, 2005 and 2009 and winning a plethora of medals over the years at both team and individual competition. In the last ten years, LSAC have won gold medals in the Team, Gents Recurve, Ladies Recurve, Gents Compound, Ladies Compound, and Gents Shield/Trophy events. Along with the prestige and competition, BUCS is also a great opportunity for the student archery world to get together. The numbers competing increase every year, at almost 400 competitors last year. BUCS has medals not only for the top recurve gents and ladies, top compound gents and ladies, but also a "Trophy" competition open to novice recurve gents and ladies. As well as this there are two team competitions at recurve level, experienced and novice. For some it is the biggest competition of the academic year and for others it is a great social event. We are lucky to be one of the few sports where anyone from top class experienced to novice competitors take part at the same time. Just think, if you shoot at BUCS, you are representing Loughborough University at a National level competition!!
